School of Massage Therapy

Academic Requirements
All applicants for the School of Massage Therapy who have graduated from high school must have achieved a minimum GPA of 2.0, or have equivalent qualifications.  Students may earn their GED while enrolled in a Massage Therapy degree program by successfully completing 24 credits of specified credit courses in 6 subject areas.  They must then submit to the State proof of successful completion from the Registrar to receive their equivalency certificate.  A high school diploma or equivalency certificate is required to sit for the New York State Massage Therapy Licensing exam.

Admissions Requirements
The admissions process is designed not only to assess the academic strength of the candidate, but also his/her desire and ability to benefit from the program of choice. Many facets of a candidate are considered: communication skills, intelligence, maturity, willingness to embrace and promote the principles of holistic health, and potential for personal growth. In accordance with New York State guidelines, a candidate must hold U.S. citizenship, be an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence in the United States, or hold a valid visa. (The New York College is authorized under Federal law to enroll non-immigrant alien students). Proper documentation must be provided by a foreign applicant for an application to be considered. Applicants are considered on the basis of individual merit without regard to handicap, sex, sexual orientation, age, religion, creed and race, national or ethnic origin.

Advanced Standing
Applicants who wish to be considered for advanced standing in one or more subject areas must make their request to the Admissions Counselor at the time of their admissions interview. Applications for advanced standing in the form of Challenge Examinations, examination waivers or transfer credits must be completed by the end of the student's first year of study. There is a $325.00 per course fee for each Prior Learning/Challenge Exam.  If the examination is not successfully passed, the student must take the course.  The fee for the exam will be applied to the tuition for the course.
