New York College of Health Professions has been a leader in holistic health for over 32 years. The College offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Massage Therapy, Advanced Asian Bodywork, Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and a Continuing Education program in Holistic Nursing for Registered Nurses. The College is institutionally accredited by the New York Board of Regents and the Commissioner of Education, and its Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine programs are programmatically accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (ACAOM).
The College offers courses at its Syosset, New York campus and at its sites in New York City.
The Academic Dean must have outstanding leadership qualities, possess a broad academic vision consonant with the community college philosophy and a student-centered, learning institution and be able to motivate various constituencies to actively support of his/her vision. S/he must possess superior knowledge and skills in supervision and management; in teaching students; in working effectively with students and colleagues; in program development; in program assessment activities consistent with accreditation requirements, in classroom instruction, observation, evaluation, and management; in making oral presentations; in written and spoken standard English and in representing and articulating the needs and interests of the academic division to the Office of the President and in other forums. S/he must have the skills and temperament to work effectively in a complex and demanding environment.
Education and/or Experience:
Doctorate from an accredited university and an academic record of distinction with five years full-time progressive academic leadership experience in an accredited institution of higher education; or any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required.
The Dean of Academic Affairs must provide leadership of the faculty and guidance of the Office of Academic Affairs. S/he must manage and provide oversight of current academic programs, including the coordination of program assessment activities as a basis for strengthening student learning outcomes. The Dean must also assist in the development and execution of new degree programs and develop programs to strengthen and support learning including provision of library and instructional student support services. S/he plans, organizes, administers, develops and evaluates credit functions necessary for the development of each student enrolled at the College. S/he must teach selected undergraduate and/or graduate level academic courses. The incumbent works closely with the Office of the President. S/he fosters a collegial environment within the Academic Division through a governance style that is participatory and inclusive.
