Applicants transferring from other schools of Massage Therapy, Acupuncture or Oriental Medicine, or any other accredited college or university must complete the regular application procedures and supply the following additional documents:
- Official transcript(s) for all prior coursework along with a complete course description.
- Applicants who wish to be considered for transfer credits in one or more subject areas must make their request in writing to the Admissions Office during the admissions process. Transfer credit can only be considered and awarded during a student’s first academic year. Transcripts are evaluated by the Dean of the appropriate program. Transfer credit will be awarded for equivalent coursework completed within the last 5-years with a grade of “B” (3.0) or better. Applicants will be notified in writing of transfer credit to be awarded. When all aspects of the transfer application are completed, an interview with the Dean may be required.
For students transferring credits from other institutions, the last three trimesters of full time enrollment in the program must be completed in residence in order to receive a degree (BPS/MS) in Acupuncture or Oriental Medicine from New York College. To receive either the AOS or the BPS degree, the last two trimesters of full time enrollment in the program must be completed at the College. All courses submitted for transfer credit will be evaluated for applicability to the selected curriculum and compliance with with licensure requirements.
Applicants who wish to be considered for advanced standing in one or more subject areas must make their request in writing to the Admissions Counselor at the time of their admissions interview. Applications for advanced standing, in the form of Challenge Examinations, examination waivers or transfer credits, must be completed by the end of the student’s first year of study or the student may be dropped from the program. Requests for advanced placement examinations must be made to the Admissions Office. There is a fee of $325.00 per course for each Prior Learning/Challenge Exam. If the examination is not successfully passed the student must take the course. The fee for the exam will be applied to the tuition for the course.
