Good News:
Clinical practice guidelines are systematically
developed statements to assist practitioner and patient decisions about appropriate health care for specific clinical circumstances.” (Institute of Medicine, 1990)
Produced by independent entities and not by NYCHP, these guidelines outline the application of certain diagnostic and treatment methods in patient care and diagnosis. These guidelines are based on a comprehensive, systematic review of existing medical literature, offering evidence-backed suggestions.
They are not rigid protocols to be strictly adhered to but are resources for healthcare professionals to refer to. While they suggest generally accepted treatment pathways, they should not replace the expert judgment of physicians or other qualified healthcare providers.
